Welcome to Villa Aglaia in Mavrata – Your Welcome Information

Welcome to Villa Aglaia, Mavrata
Thank you for choosing Villa Aglaia for your Kefalonian holiday, we hope you have a very enjoyable and relaxing stay.   A welcome pack containing tea, coffee and few essential items to get you started is provided.

We are sure you will find everything in good order in the house but if you have any concerns during your stay, you can contact Suzii our Property Manager on +30 (0)6980418756 , by using WhatsApp or by email at suzii@kefalonia-holiday-rentals.com and she will do her very best to put things right.  Our housekeeper Vicky is your contact in the village should you have any problems with housekeeping – please email her at vicky@kefalonia-holiday-rentals.com .

COVID-19. In accordance with the Greek government’s guidelines, the house has been stringently cleaned and sanitised prior to your arrival and every precaution taken for your safety.  Please use the hand sanitiser provided frequently and when leaving and returning to the house.

Car Parking
If you have hired a car, you may park on the road or use half of the area outside the property under construction next door (a neighbour uses half too).  Please make sure the sliding gates are closed at night and when you leave on your last day.

Key Safe
Key-Safe

The door key is in a key safe to the right of the front door. The code for your stay will be emailed to you before your arrival.

Air Conditioning
The house is fully air conditioned for your comfort.  We respectfully request that you do not leave the air conditioning running when not in the house or with the doors and windows open as this reduces the efficiency of the system and is simply a costly waste of energy.  To use simply stand in the kitchen/living room area and clearly say exactly these phrases: “Alexa, living room on” or “Alexa, bedroom on” To turn off: “Alexa bedroom off” or “Alexa, living room off”. You will see various sensors connected to USB wall sockets, please do not unplug them. We do not charge for using Air Conditioning provided it is used correctly, so please use with consideration.

Toilet
The same rules apply here as in the rest of Greece, no toilet paper or anything else down the toilet please, the 50mm pipes cannot cope with it.  Simply place all toilet paper and anything else in the bathroom bin provided.  ANYTHING deposited in the toilet will unfortunately cause plumbing problems and will result in a call out to our plumber.

Water
Although the tap water is safe, many people prefer to drink filtered water due to the high mineral content which can cause an upset stomach if you are not used to it.  Limescale is also a problem here so we have provided a water filter jug in the fridge for filling the kettle, coffee machine and for drinking.

Hot Water
Water is heated by solar panels on the roof.  Water may be cooler on a cloudy day but will very quickly warm up again when the sun comes out so a little patience is sometimes required, thank you.

Shops and Mini Markets
The nearest mini market is Bazaar at Valeriano 1.7km west before the main road to Argostoli.  There are a good selection of restaurants, bars and mini markets in Kateleios just 6 minutes away. For more serious shopping, head for Argostoli which has a good selection of supermarkets and everything else you may need.

Elios Grillhouse is situated at the entrance to the village on the main road and is an excellent place to try some traditional Kefalonian food in informal surroundings and an easy walk away.

Beaches and Turtles
There are some beautiful beaches very close by. Kateleios, Kaminia and Mounda beaches are all within a 10 minute drive, have lovely stretches of sand and are very safe for children.  Sun loungers, parasols and other beach equipment are available to hire at the beach and we ask that you do not use the white house towels for the beach – thank you.  You will find many other coves and small beaches everywhere in the area so have fun finding your favourite secret hideaway.

Kefalonia is famous for its Loggerhead turtles, when visiting the beach, if you see any taped off areas it is because there is a Turtle nest containing eggs there.  Please leave these areas undisturbed and if you are using beach umbrellas, put them in the wet sand bellow the tide line to help protect unmarked nests.   If you would like to find out more about the local turtles, Wildlife Sense are a volunteer wildlife conservation group that work very closely with students, local people and visitors to help protect these endangered animals, they can be found most days on the harbour in Argostoli and will be happy to answer your questions. The best time to see the turtles is about 10am in the harbour when the fishing boats come in.

Cats
Kefalonia is also famous for its population of feral cats and Mavrata has its share.  They are very friendly and you are very welcome to feed them if you wish as many people do but please do not let them into the house.  You may wish to donate cat/dog food to the Kefalonia Animal Trust (KAT’s) or Animal Rescue Kefalonia (ARK) both in Argostoli, who do amazing work looking after the islands stray animals.

Bins and Recycling
Bins are located at the entrance to the village, Blue are for recycling and Green bins are for everything else.

On your last day
Please empty the fridge and dispose of any left-over food.
Please replace the door key back in the key safe before you leave and make sure the box is locked and secure.  Please close the front gate.
